Sam's Story (the cliff notes, obviously)
Meet Sam Singleton. He didn't grow up in the church. In fact, he was saved when he was 23 after getting to the point in his life where he didn't like the person he saw in the mirror. He was angry, bitter and headed in the wrong direction. His anger management counselor asked him if he attended a church...he didn't, but he was invited to one by his university secretary.
At first, he was the last to get there and the first to leave, usually sitting in the back row. Slowly, as God worked on his heart, he not only moved towards the front of the church but moved closer to God and completely surrendered his life. He was always looking for significance in life and he wanted God to change him and use him in a mighty way.
He formed part of a bible study called "Walking on Water", more exciting for him was Jesus' disciple,Peter. Peter walked on water just as Jesus did, something no other man has done. He experienced God like never before...when he left his comfort zone. Sam wanted to experience God in that way. Instantly, he felt God was calling him to leave. He felt God calling him to Peru.
It was scary. It would mean leaving his comfort zone, family, church and friends. Looking back, that might have been the easiest of things. As Sam moved forward with plans, doors closed, money was depleted and seemed as though going to Peru was not going to happen. He lost hope. One day, he called out to God and said, "Lord, if this is going to happen, you need to help me. I can't do this on my own. Sam says "Now I realize that God was waiting for me to put myself in his hands. He didn't want me to take any of the glory." Within three months, he was on his way to Peru.
Fast forward two years later. It is amazing what God has done with Sam's willing heart. God has taken him on seven journeys since, to Peru, Haiti and Brazil. The main goals of each trip is to spread The Good news of Jesus Christ while also establishing and equipping medical centers in order to provide crucial medical services for under-served populations. Through opposition to God's work, illness, hunger, to simply name a few, Sam and the team has stayed relentless.
For so long Sam searched for the love that he has found in Jesus Christ. He says "I have never felt more joy and peace than when serving the Lord."
Send Sam an encouraging word, scripture or a simple, "Hello, we're praying for you!"
